Please help me support AbilityFirst by making a contribution to my fundraiser and sharing this page with your family and friends.
Growing up in Nebraska, I came from a very blue-collar family with parents that taught me the value of hard work and the importance of helping and giving to others. After attending the University of Nebraska, I became a teacher in Nebraska. I think teaching has always been in my genetics.
After teaching three years, I moved to California (my wife’s home state) and planned to teach. However, as we all know, life gave me some twists and turns, so instead of teaching I went into business. I spent the next 25 years running businesses. I retired early from running businesses and spent much of my free time fly fishing until I realized my calling was still teaching and helping others. After considerable thought, I had the opportunity to join MAP, a management consulting firm based in Sherman Oaks. This gave me the opportunity to teach, help others, and give back to others my numerous years of business experience. As many of you know, I have spent the last 20 plus years as a business coach & consultant teaching and helping others in business achieve their goals. It truly has been a blessing for me to do this.
MAP is a good fit. Today I am one of the company’s senior consultant and the co-author of the best-selling book, “Vital Factors: The Secret to Transforming Your Business and Your Life.” MAP has given me more than a career, it has also given me the opportunity to forge relationships and to help others, such as the one I have had with AbilityFirst since 2012.
I have always been impressed with the passion of AbilityFirst’s staff and the effort that it makes to ensure that its funding is supporting AbilityFirst participants. I also admire and am aligned to AbilityFirst’s mission and values.
I have worked hard to create a partner relationship with AbilityFirst working together for a common goal (always staying focused on “What’s the goal?”). As part of that partnership, I have led workshops with the proceeds benefitting AbilityFirst and I continue to help the organization in various ways such as supporting their fundraising efforts.
That is my AbilityFirst story. AbilityFirst aligns to those core values taught to me by my parents back in Nebraska, hard work, giving and helping others. It’s an important and worthy mission. The organization makes a difference to families and people’s lives and that is why I hope you’ll join me in supporting its programs. Thank you for that support.
